Secondary Schools
The region has a three secondary schools to choose from - one public school and two independent schools. There is also a transitional school to help educate those young people who are disengaged or at risk of being disengaged from mainstream school.
Wangaratta High School offers flexible and nurturing education and provide a vast range of experiences both inside and outside the classroom. The school has a state of the art Flexible Learning Centre which provides the latest resources for technology, arts and specialists subjects. They also have a Performing Arts Centre, Student Wellbeing Centre and new oval.
There are two independent high schools which offer exceptional education and facilities which rival those of metro schools, but without the hefty price tag!
Galen College in Wangaratta is a Catholic secondary school. Galen offers exceptional standards in facilities and education, at a fraction of the cost of its Melbournian counterparts. Highly regarded as one of regional Victoria’s most renowned independent educational institutions, Galen strength lies in its STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) program. Galen offers the renowned VEX program, the world’s largest and fastest growing educational robotics competition, with the Galen team recently competing in both national and international championships.
Cathedral College in Wangaratta is an Anglican Prep to Year 12 school. Cathedral College offers students continuity in their educational journey, fostering a strong culture of learning and wellbeing. The College specialises in music, drama, extra-curricular activities and has an in-house Learning Enhancement Department empowering students to engage in their educational journey. Cathedral College also offers a Sports Academy program to cater for talented athletes to achieve the highest performance in their sport along with developing their personal education.
Transitional schooling
The Borinya Wangaratta Community Partnership is a transitional school that caters for young people aged 12 - 18, who may be struggling with social, emotional or behavioural challenges or when mainstream education does not meet their needs. Borinya offers a Catholic Education in a supportive, learning community. Students have access to a number of educational programs including VCAL and VET courses, along with courses offered by GOTAFE Wangaratta.
