Wangaratta is a great spot to base yourself to explore the wider North East Victorian region. Indulge your senses in the Rutherglen wine region or do a spot of boutique shopping in Beechworth – both just 30 mins down the road. 

Visit and hike the beautiful Mount Buffalo National Park, sample local ales at the Bright Brewery or pick crisp apples from the branches at the Nightingale Bros in Wandiligong. All are within 60 mins. 

Fancy some sun and sand? Wind your way along the Great Alpine Road to Metung on the gorgeous Gippsland Lakes.

Snow 

For those adventure and outdoor lovers, you’ve got three ski resorts to choose from – Mt Buller, Falls Creek and Mt Hotham are all just two hours away. Each resort offers ample fun and fresh air all year round, including bush walking and mountain biking in summer.

Cycling 

Cycling enthusiasts are spoilt for choice! Mountain bike riders have seven parks to choose from, offering a range of cross-country and downhill trails suitable for beginner to advance riders, all within 2 hours.

Road and gravel cyclists are in for a treat with some of Victoria’s highest mountains offering long climbs, speedy descents and epic views. The roads are generally quiet and dotted with great coffee, breweries and cafes to keep you fueled. If you are looking for something flatter, the Murray to Mountain Rail Trail provides 100km of seal off-road cycling from Wangaratta to Bright. There's something to suit even the most beginner rider all the way to lycra lovers and gravel grinders.
